In the vast expanse beyond the boundaries of our perception, there are worlds that operate on rules different from our own and realms where reality intertwines with the fantastical—a place where unseen forces shape worlds beyond comprehension. There are light waves that our eyes can’t perceive and sounds that our ears can’t hear and yet there they are, these other worlds operating alongside our own universe, ticking at their own pace and rhythm. My series Alien Landscapes seeks to capture the essence of these otherworldly realms, blending together biomorphic forms, organic botanical structures and geometrical patterns cohesively into intricately woven tapestries of imagination.
Grounded in the surreal and the whimsical, my works draw inspiration from a myriad of influences: childhood memories of chasing butterflies and following snail trails, the many hours spent illustrating biology journals, fantastical narratives from magical realism & science fiction, chaos theory guiding the cosmic dance of the universe, and the curious enchantment of the natural world. The intersections of these varied influences allow for a lateral view and infinite possibilities through themes of exploration, new discoveries, & symbiotic associations.
Within these canvases, a kaleidoscope of elements converges—magical beanstalks twist and twine alongside candy trails, shimmering constellations, fungi forests, deep water reefs, butterflies and brooding mummy-like cocoons, all symbols ripe for interpretation. It is a harmonious fusion of elements from the natural world and the world of fiction, all seemingly disparate elements brought together into a state of cohesive clusters where vibrant life flourishes in unexpected ways, emerging as mutated biodiverse ecosystems that feel Alien yet familiar.
In these works I allow for organic destiny. It is an exercise in following the breadcrumb trail and connecting the dots to the moments in time when I have felt most captivated by life. It is an allowing of each artwork to flourish organically like a lush otherworldly terrarium or coral reef. Some of the pieces in this series have grown complex personalities of their own, evolving over the years, as I have added new details to them, creating a new story over a story, resulting in art that is richly emotive and complex. The materials I use to create these artworks staying true to the theme are a mix of media like acrylic & oil paints, ink, and sometimes also latex, paper and metallic leaf. The many layers of color and line drawings are set using various application techniques, including those of fluid paint pours (the most organic and unpredictable of layers), spray painted elements, various resist media and the more structured layers of line drawings .
At its core my art is a celebration of resilience—a testament to the ability of life to bloom in even the harshest of terrains, and the boundless power of imagination. Born from my own experiences traversing landscapes both stark and lush, each artwork is infused with a sense of adventure and discovery. Through each line and brushstroke, I weave together fragments of my own personal mythology, connecting the dots between the past and the present, reality and the fantastical. It is a deeply personal journey, a call for adventure, and an invitation to journey into the unknown.

StrangeScapes – This series is a continuation of the Alien Landscapes series and an exploration to transcend my current work process and choice of media. It is an ongoing series of digital assemblages where hand painted elements from my many mixed media paintings are digitally taken apart, and are mixed with pieces that typically don’t belong together – digitally embellished and reassembled into whimsical clusters of mutated landscapes, strange beasties, candy trails, constellations, faux fungi and other absurdities. The resultant hybrids of these paintings and their virtual avatars are layered, rich, and their merging more dramatic than the original pieces of art they were born from. While in its most basic form, these artworks exist as static digital assemblages, they can also be reprinted and hand embellished to create unique iterations of each artwork. I am currently also exploring the animation of these artworks for new media art displays.
More from the series : An extension of the Alien Landscapes series, all these bodies of work comprise of mostly small works that are agglomerates of abstract imaginary ecosystems and biomorphic forms, inspired by my time spent being a student of biology and my interest in themes related to other worlds, the natural world, magical realism and scifi. Some of these pieces are sculptural, sprouting inked paper biomorphic forms, algae, fungi & wings. The artwork in petriscapes is inspired by faux taxidermy and specimen boxes, and comprises of a set of fantastical flora and fauna on painted discs.
